We’ve all been there. You don’t remember feeling this excited since you saw your abs showing after doing fasted cardio for 612 weeks, give or take. You have dreamt up an idea that will change your life, and the moment you announce your vision to the world, you are slammed with the words “you can’t do that”, “that’s impossible”, “be more realistic”, “you’re too young”, “you’re too old” blablabla ecetera. Every statement feels like a 46 kg weight being dropped on your foot.
The sad thing is these dreams are often shared with our closest networks: family and friends. They may mean well, but the reason behind this reaction is their lack of having a dream themselves. Maybe they were once like you, but failed to reach their full potential because they quit too early.
Sometimes “them” can even be our own thought processes. We have all struggled with fighting ourselves and our own thoughts, telling us we couldn’t do something.
Visualise all the things people have told you that you couldn’t do, and all the things you told yourself you couldn’t do… throughout the course of your life. How many times did you believe these lies?
The biggest mistake is letting your past, what others think and your current circumstance continue to shape your thought processes in a negative way. This kind of thinking places limits on your life, preventing you from reaching your full potential and dooming you to a life of mediocrity. Don’t get me wrong, some people are okay with that. But why settle for just okay when you can live great?
You’ve heard it many times before: there will always be negative people. You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, but there will always be someone who hates peaches. People like to believe just because they haven’t done it, that you can’t either.
An important lesson I’ve learnt in life:
negative opinions play an important role in helping us achieve our goals.
How? Stay tuned. Part II is coming soon 😉
